First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Consult a physician after significant exposure. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. If breathing has stopped, assist ventilation with a mechanical device. Do not use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if exposure to hydrogen sulphide is suspected.

Skin contact

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and plenty of water. If symptoms persist, call a physician. In case of burns apply cold water until pain subsides then seek medical advice.

Symptoms: burns

Eye contact

In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Continue rinsing eyes during transport to hospital. Remove contact lenses. Protect unharmed eye. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/ attention.

Symptoms: Small amounts splashed into eyes can cause irreversible tissue damage and blindness. eye irritation.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Take victim immediately to hospital.

Immediate Medical Attention

Consult a physician immediately for significant exposure, unconsciousness, stopped breathing, persistent symptoms, burns, eye contact, or ingestion. Continue rinsing eyes during transport to hospital. Take victim immediately to hospital if swallowed. Get medical advice/ attention if eye irritation persists.

Medical Treatment

Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. The first aid procedure should be established in consultation with the doctor responsible for industrial medicine. If a person vomits when lying on his back, place him in the recovery position. Keep patient warm and at rest.

Instructions

Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. In the event of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Fire-fighters should exercise extreme caution in enclosed spaces due to the possible presence of toxic decomposition and combustion products. Self-contained full-face overpressure breathing apparatus should be used in enclosed spaces. Use standard body protective equipment.

Firefighter Protection

In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Exposure to decomposition products may be a hazard to health.

Emergency procedures

Advice for emergency responders: Ensure adequate ventilation. Use personal protective equipment. Material can create slippery conditions. For personal protection see section 8. Advice for non-emergency personnel: Avoid contact with spilled material. Do not touch or walk through spilled material.

See attached ES Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water. Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Cleanup methods

Recover by pumping or with suitable absorbent. Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly while observing environmental regulations.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. For personal protection see section 8. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area. Dispose of rinse water in accordance with local and national regulations. Handle and open container with care. This product contains Zinc Dialkyl DithioPhosphate (ZDDP), a thermally sensitive substance. Do not reheat above the maximum loading temperature. Higher temperatures can result in exothermic decomposition of the ZDDP leading to the release of highly toxic hydrogen sulphide and possibly extremely odorous alkyl mercaptans. Alkyl mercaptans can be smelled at extremely low concentrations, and vapours may travel for many miles at detectable concentrations. These decomposition vapours are also flammable and may suddenly ignite when mixed with air in the presence of ignition sources such as sparks or flames. Caution must be exercised when heating this product. When heated, product temperature should be constantly monitored. Product should be stored below the recommended maximum loading / unloading temperature to avoid degradation of product quality and eventually decomposition. Extreme caution must be used in tank gauging or similar operations as overheating could lead to accumulation of lethal concentrations of hydrogen sulphide in the head-space of containers. Warning: If this material is overheated, especially in the presence of water, hydrogen sulphide may be released; this can cause rapid respiratory collapse, coma and death without necessarily any warning odour being sensed. If decomposition is suspected, or if the product has been overheated, do not open the container, discontinue heating and secure the unit. Initiate emergency procedures, taking all necessary precautions to avoid exposure to noxious or flammable gases (e.g. hydrogen sulphide), such as evacuation of contaminated areas, and use of suitable respiratory protection.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. No decomposition if stored and applied as directed. Do not reheat above: 65 °C (149 °F) Storage temperature : <= 60 °C (140 °F)

Hygiene

Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.

Fire prevention

Normal measures for preventive fire protection. These decomposition vapours are also flammable and may suddenly ignite when mixed with air in the presence of ignition sources such as sparks or flames.

Engineering

See attached ES No special requirements under ordinary conditions of use and with adequate ventilation. If decomposition is suspected, or if the product has been overheated, do not open the container, discontinue heating and secure the unit. Initiate emergency procedures, taking all necessary precautions to avoid exposure to noxious or flammable gases (e.g. hydrogen sulphide), such as evacuation of contaminated areas, and use of suitable respiratory protection.

Hands

Polyvinyl alcohol or nitrile- butyl-rubber gloves Before removing gloves clean them with soap and water. Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time. When handling hot material, use heat resistant gloves. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Eyes
