First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Provide fresh air. In case of respiratory tract irritation, consult a physician. In case of inhalation of decomposition products, affected person should be moved into fresh air and kept still.

Symptoms: respiratory tract irritation

Skin contact

After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. After contact with molten product, cool skin area rapidly with cold water. Do not peel solidified product off the skin. Immediate medical treatment required because corrosive injuries that are not treated are hard to cure. In case of skin irritation, consult a physician.

Symptoms: corrosive injuries, skin irritation

Eye contact

In case of contact with eyes flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist. Protect uninjured eye.

Ingestion

If accidentally swallowed rinse the mouth with plenty of water (only if the person is conscious) and obtain immediate medical attention.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical treatment required because corrosive injuries that are not treated are hard to cure.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray jet alcohol resistant foam Excess water

Unsuitable media

Full water jet

Specific hazards

In case of fire may be liberated: Carbon monoxide Carbon dioxide (CO2) Ammonia (NH3) Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Instructions

Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings. Do not inhale explosion and combustion gases. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Special danger of slipping by leaking/spilling product.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Cover drains. Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil.

Cleanup methods

Take up mechanically.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

All work processes must always be designed so that the following is as low as possible: Inhalation of dust/particles If handled uncovered, arrangements with local exhaust ventilation have to be used. It is recommended to design all work processes always so that the following is excluded: Eye contact Only use the material in places where open light, fire and other flammable sources can be kept away. Wear personal protection equipment (refer to section 8).

Storage

Keep/Store only in original container. Ensure adequate ventilation of the storage area. Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

When using do not eat, drink, smoke, sniff.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of heat (e.g. hot surfaces), sparks and open flames. Provide earthing of containers, equipment, pumps and ventilation facilities. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If technical exhaust or ventilation measures are not possible or insufficient, respiratory protection must be worn.

Hands

Suitable material : NBR (Nitrile rubber). Breakthrough time : not relevant. Thickness of the glove material : not relevant. Additional hand protection measures : Check leak tightness/impermeability prior to use. Do not wear gloves near rotary machines and tools. Wear cotton undermitten if possible. Take recovery periods for skin regeneration.

Eyes

Eye glasses with side protection

Respiratory

Respiratory protection necessary at: If technical exhaust or ventilation measures are not possible or insufficient, respiratory protection must be worn. During filling, metering, mixing and sampling must be used: Half-face mask or quarter facepiece: maximum use concentration for substances with exposure limits: P1 filter: up to a max. of 4 times the exposure limit. P2 filter: up to a max. of 10 times the exposure limit. P3 filter: up to a max. of 30 times the expo. The filter class must be suitable for the maximum contaminant concentration (gas/vapour/aerosol/particulates) that may arise when handling the product. If the concentration is exceeded, self-contained breathing apparatus must be used.

Skin/Body

Suitable protective clothing : lab coat Overall Disposable suit. Remark : Only wear fitting, comfortable and clean protective clothing. Barrier creams are not substitutes for body protection.

Stability and Reactivity

Chemical stability, hazardous reactions, and incompatible materials

Stability

Information is given in sub section 10.3.

Reactivity

Information is given in sub section 10.3.

Hazardous reactions

The product in the delivered form is not dust explosion capable; the enrichment of fine dust however leads to the danger of dust explosion. The product is thermally unstable. Urea and zinc compounds decrease the decomposition temperature. Due to gaseous decomposition products, overpressure can occur in tightly sealed containers. Danger of bursting container.

Avoid

Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Avoid high temperatures or direct sunlight. Further information on storage conditions: see sub section 7.2.

Incompatible

No information available.

Decomposition

Carbon monoxide Carbon dioxide (CO2) Ammonia (NH3)
