First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest.

Skin contact

OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose off safely. Wash thoroughly the body (shower or bath). After contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and plenty of water.

Symptoms: appreciable inflammation, with erythema, scabs, and oedema.

Eye contact

rinse with water with the eyelids open for a sufficient length of time, then consult an ophthalmologist immediately. Protect uninjured eye.

Symptoms: serious eye injury, such as opacity of the cornea or lesions to the iris.

Ingestion

Do not under any circumstances induce vomiting. OBTAIN A MEDICAL EXAMINATION IMMEDIATELY.

Immediate Medical Attention

OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately. OBTAIN A MEDICAL EXAMINATION IMMEDIATELY. Seek medical advice immediately.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

In case of fire: use dry powder, CO2, foam for extinction.

Unsuitable media

In case of fire of insoluble products / immiscible in water, the use of water, increase the risk of propagation of the area of fire.

Specific hazards

Do not inhale explosion and combustion gases. Burning produces heavy smoke. When heated (decomposition) or in case of fire may liberate carbon oxides, gases and vapors which are dangerous to health.

Instructions

Move undamaged containers from immediate hazard area if it can be done safely.

Firefighter Protection

Use suitable breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Remove persons to safety.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil. Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Retain contaminated washing water and dispose it.

Cleanup methods

Wash with plenty of water.

Materials: absorbing material, organic, sand

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid contact with skin and eyes, inhalation of vapours and mists. Exercise the greatest care when handling or opening the container. Don't use empty container before they have been cleaned. Before making transfer operations, assure that there aren't any incompatible material residuals in the containers.

Storage

Protect from freezing. Stored at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Always keep in a well ventilated place. Keep away from food, drink and feed. Cool and adequately ventilated.

Hygiene

Contamined clothing should be changed before entering eating areas. Do not eat or drink while working.

Fire prevention

Keep away from unguarded flame, sparks, and heat sources. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Avoid accumulating electrostatic charge.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Install a closed circuit with forced ventilation if possible; failing this, use personal protective equipment suitable for the type of processing.

Hands

Use protective gloves that provides comprehensive protection (ref. EN 374), also with prolonged, direct contact. E.g. Butyl rubber (recommended > 480 minutes permeation time; 0.4 mm thickness). Protective gloves (EN 374): in case risk of skin contact with the product, the use of protective gloves checked according to EN 374, is considered sufficient protection. Protective gloves should be tested before use to verify their suitability with respect to the specific needs of the workplace (eg mechanical stability, chemical compatibility and antistatic properties). Follow the manufacturer's instructions and information relating to the use, storage, care and replacement of protective gloves. Protective gloves shall be replaced immediately when physically damaged or worn.

Eyes

Use close fitting safety goggles, don't use eye lens.

Respiratory

Use adequate protective respiratory equipment. Ensure good ventilation to maintain air contaminants below exposure limits. Use respiratory protection filters for gas / vapor (Type A / AX brown, ref. Standard EN 141) as a function of the levels of occupational exposure to chemical agents.

Skin/Body

Chemical protection clothing.

Environmental

Prevent spills into public sewers or the immediate environment. Do not empty into drains; dispose of this material and its container at a collection point for hazardous waste and in accordance with local regulations. Refer to applicable national and Community legislation concerning environmental protection, waste water, soil pollution and integrated pollution prevention and control (ex. IPPC). Check whether the activity that uses the product falls within the scope of Directive 96/61/EC (IPPC). The emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure compliance with the directives on environmental protection. In some cases, to reduce emissions, might be needed maintenance or technical plant modifications.
