Composition / Information on Ingredients

Chemical components, concentration ranges, and hazardous substance identification

Type substance
04

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

No particular ventilation requirements.

Skin contact

Wash with excess water and soap. Remove contaminated clothing.

Symptoms: The substance could cause slight skin irritation if prolonged contact

Eye contact

Flush eyes for at least 15 minutes with clean water, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth with cold water. Give victim one or two cups of milk to drink.

Immediate Medical Attention

As regards the method of exposure: see paragraph 4.1

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Material is non-flammable, therefore ensure correct use of fire extinguishers for the surrounding area.

Specific hazards

Fermentation can yield carbon dioxide with possible traces of ethanol or volatile fatty acids (e.g. acetic, propionic, lactic, or butyric) and if exposed to a spark or flame may result in an explosion. These conditions should be avoided.

Firefighter Protection

Ensure portable breathing apparatus and protective clothing is used.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel: Ensure PPE is worn, evacuate the area if safe to do so and inform emergency responders. For emergency responders: Ensure PPE is worn. Prevent releases to land, water and drainage systems which run into open waters and sewers

Environmental

Prevent releases to land, water and drainage systems which run into open waters and sewers

Cleanup methods

Sweep spillage into area where collection of the material can be vacuumed up. Residual material should be soaked up using absorbants

Materials: absorbants

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

If maintenance of tank requires entry by personnel, Confined Space Entry standards and procedures must be observed and atmosphere testing to be performed prior to tank entry and thereafter. If welding is to be performed, the tank should be gas free (LEL < 10%) and only certified welders shall perform welding operations.

Storage

Product should be stored in a well-ventilated aboveground storage tank designed to contain material. When using tanks with lower design SG, then reduce filling height appropriately. Material can ferment if excessive moisture contamination is allowed. When stored in IBC, ensure proper ventilation to prevent quality deterioration.

Hygiene

Ensure no eating or drinking whilst handling this material. Wash hands before and after handling material.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure tank level guages are used to help prevent overfilling of storage tank

Hands

Impermeable chemical resistant gloves/gauntlets (EN374)

Eyes

If there is a risk of splashing, ensure splash proof safety glasses (EN166) are worn.

Skin/Body

Cotton type overalls/clothing

Environmental

Ensure storage tanks/containers have adequate means to measure level of stored material to prevent overfilling. If stored near water courses, rivers and drains ensure means of preventing spilled material entering these areas.
