First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If breathed in, move person into fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Consult a physician. After inhalation: fresh air. Call a physician.

Skin contact

Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Consult a physician. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water / shower. Call a physician immediately.

Eye contact

Flush eyes with water as a precaution. Rinse out with plenty of water. Immediately call an ophthalmologist. Remove contact lenses.

Ingestion

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth with water. Consult a physician. If swallowed: give water to drink (two glasses at most), avoid vomiting (risk of perforation). Call a physician immediately. Do not attempt to neutralise.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call a physician immediately.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide (CO2).

Unsuitable media

There are no common extinguishing agents inappropriate.

Specific hazards

Gentamicin Sulfate: Combustible. Development of hazardous combustion gases or vapours possible in the event of fire. ProClin 300: Combustible. Vapors are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Forms explosive mixtures with air on intense heating. Development of hazardous combustion gases or vapours possible in the event of fire.

Instructions

Stay in danger area only with self-contained breathing apparatus. Prevent skin contact by keeping a safe distance or by wearing suitable protective clothing.

Firefighter Protection

Stay in danger area only with self-contained breathing apparatus. Prevent skin contact by keeping a safe distance or by wearing suitable protective clothing.

Stability and Reactivity

Chemical stability, hazardous reactions, and incompatible materials

Stability

The product is chemically stable under standard ambient conditions (room temperature).

Reactivity

Gentamicin Sulfate: The following applies in general to flammable organic substances and mixtures: in correspondingly fine distribution, when whirled up a dust explosion potential may generally be assumed. ProClin 300: Forms explosive mixtures with air on intense heating. A range from approx. 15 Kelvin below the flash point is to be rated as critical.

Hazardous reactions

violent reactions possible with strong oxidizing agents.

Avoid

Gentamicin Sulfate (CAS: 1405-41-0): No information available; ProClin™ 300 (CAS-No: 55965-84-9): Strong heating

Incompatible

Gentamicin Sulfate: No information available; ProClin 300: Strong oxidizing agents, Reducing agents, Amines, Mercaptans

Decomposition

In the event of fire: see section 5.
