First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If symptoms are experienced, remove source of contamination or move victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention.

Skin contact

In case of contact, immediately remove contaminated clothing and flush skin with copious amounts of water. Discard any shoes or clothing items that cannot be decontaminated. If symptoms develop and persist, get medical attention.

Eye contact

In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes, and seek immediate medical attention.

Ingestion

Get immediate medical attention. DO NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Give one to two glasses of water or milk. Never give anything by mouth to a victim who is unconscious or is having convulsions.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not reuse the empty container. Considerable heat is generated when water or acid is added, therefore when making solutions always add the caustic to the water or acid with constant stirring. If caustic substance or solution becomes concentrated in one area, or if added too rapidly or if added to hot or cold water a rapid temperature increase can result in dangerous boiling water and/or splashing or may cause immediate violent eruption.

Storage

Store at or below 120 °F (48.9 °C). Keep the container tightly closed and in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

Wash thoroughly after handling.
