First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
Move the patient to fresh air. Get medical attention if discomfort persists. Treat symptomatically if needed: removal from exposure, bed rest, oral hydration, medication against fever (ibuprofen, salicylates).
Symptoms: Large amounts of dust can cause irritation in respiratory ducts. Metal fume fever ("zinc fever") symptoms can be fever, nausea, rigor, vomiting, stomach pain, muscle pain and in some cases hallucinations or incoherence.
Wash with soap and warm water. In case of contact with molten product cool rapidly with water and seek immediate medical attention. Never attempt to remove molten product from skin because skin will tear easily. Cuts or abrasions should be treated promptly with through cleansing.
Symptoms: Exposure to zinc oxide can cause eczema.
Rinse with water for 15 minutes, consult a doctor if pain persists. Do not rub eyes. Remove any contact lenses. If the patient gets tile or splashes of melted metal in the eye, the patient must be taken to a doctor immediately.
Symptoms: Pain.
Rinse mouth and give water to drink if the patient is conscious. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention in case of any discomfort.

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment
If user operations generate dust, fumes, gas, vapour or mist, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits. Use only with adequate ventilation. No special ventilation requirements.
During the thermal spray process, heat insulated gloves are recommended.
During the thermal spray process, safety goggles and dark lenses MUST be worn.
Use a properly fitted, air-purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the selected respirator. With normal handling no respiratory personal protection is necessary.
Protective clothing. Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.
Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
