First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air and encourage deep breathing. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Skin contact

Rinse thoroughly with water. If irritation occurs and persists, report to the Medical Department.

Eye contact

Flush with water for 15 minutes and report to the Medical Department

Ingestion

If swallowed, call a physician or Poison Control Center immediately. Do not induce vomiting.

Immediate Medical Attention

Symptoms of poisoning may even occur after several hours; therefore medical observation for at least 48 hours after the accident. If swallowed, call a physician or Poison Control Center immediately. Report to the Medical Department if irritation occurs and persists after skin contact or after eye contact.

Medical Treatment

Gastric lavage is indicated if material was taken internally

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation and/or local exhaust ventilation should be provided in areas where there is handling of perfumes in open systems (e.g., dispensing from drums). This applies to perfume compounding areas as well. Provide fire extinguishers, fire hoses and natural or forced air ventilation (at least 2 air changes per hour). Walls, floors, ceilings must have 2 hour fire rating. Outside walls must be noncombustible.

Hands

Avoid unnecessary skin contact. Use natural rubber gloves and aprons for direct contact.

Eyes

If splash potential exists, use chemical goggles.

Respiratory

Prolonged exposures to high vapor concentrations may require respiratory protection as approved by local regulatory agencies (e.g. NIOSH) for organic vapors.

Skin/Body

Contaminated clothing and footwear should be removed and thoroughly cleaned before reuse. Use natural rubber gloves and aprons for direct contact.
