First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Skin contact

Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water as soon as reasonably practicable. Remove heavily contaminated clothing and wash underlying skin.

Symptoms: Injuries may not appear serious at first but within a few hours tissue becomes swollen, discolored and extremely painful with extensive subcutaneous necrosis.

Eye contact

Wash eye thoroughly with copious quantities of water, ensuring eyelids are held open.

Symptoms: pain or redness develops or persists

Ingestion

If contamination of the mouth occurs, wash out thoroughly with water. If it should occur, do not induce vomiting; obtain medical advice.

Immediate Medical Attention

Obtain medical advice if any pain or redness develops or persists (for eyes). If ingestion should occur, obtain medical advice. Injections through the skin, resulting from contact with the product at high pressure, constitute a major medical emergency.

Medical Treatment

Surgical exploration should be undertaken without delay. Thorough and extensive debridement of the wound and underlying tissue is necessary to minimize tissue loss and prevent or limit permanent damage.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure good ventilation. If vapor, mists or fumes are generated, their concentration in the workplace air should be controlled to the lowest reasonably practicable level.

Hands

If skin contact is likely, wear impervious protective gloves.

Eyes

Wear face visor or goggles in circumstances where eye contact can accidentally occur.

Respiratory

Respiratory protection is unnecessary, provided the concentration or vapor, mists or fumes is adequately controlled. The use of respiratory equipment must be strictly in accordance with the manufactures instructions and any statutory requirements governing its selection and use.

Skin/Body

If skin contact is likely, wear impervious protective clothing. Protective clothing should be regularly laundered or dry cleaned. Change heavily contaminated clothing as soon as reasonably possible; dry clean, launder and preferably starch before re-use.
