First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove exposed person to fresh air if adverse effects are observed.

Skin contact

Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if symptoms occur. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Eye contact

Any material that contacts the eye should be washed out immediately with water. If easy to do, remove contact lenses.

Ingestion

Treat symptomatically. Get medical attention.

Immediate Medical Attention

Hazards: No data available.

Medical Treatment

Treatment: Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

CO2, Dry chemical or Foam. Water can be used to cool and protect exposed material.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

No unusual fire or explosion hazards noted.

Instructions

No data available.

Firefighter Protection

Wear full protective firegear including self-containing breathing apparatus operated in the positive pressure mode with full facepiece, coat, pants, gloves and boots.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Large spill

Dike far ahead of larger spill for later recovery and disposal.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

Pick up free liquid for recycle and/or disposal. Residual liquid can be absorbed on inert material.

Materials: inert material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Keep container closed when not in use and use with adequate ventilation. Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Storage

Keep container closed when not in use.

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Material should be handled in enclosed vessels and equipment, in which case general (mechanical) room ventilation should be sufficient. Local exhaust ventilation should be used at points where dust, mist, vapors or gases can escape into the room air.

Hands

Use nitrile or neoprene gloves. Use good industrial hygiene practices. In case of skin contact, wash hands and arms with soap and water. For typical use and handling of chemical substances, gloves should meet the standards set out in EN 374. For continuous contact, we suggest gloves with a minimum breakthrough time of 240 minutes, or > 480 minutes if suitable gloves can be obtained. For general applications, we recommend gloves with a thickness typically greater than 0.35 mm.

Eyes

If contact is likely, safety glasses with side shields are recommended. Eye protection should meet the standards set out in EN 166.

Respiratory

Use respirator with an organic vapor cartridge if exposure limit is exceeded. Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is not normally required where there is adequate natural or local exhaust ventilation to control exposure. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Skin/Body

Long sleeve shirt is recommended.

Environmental

No data available. See section 6 for details.

12.7 Other adverse effects

Product: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. SDS_GB - R14653A/606531 Lubrizol Version: 1.2 Revision Date: 18.08.2021 Calcium branched alkyl phenate sulphide (overbased) This material contains one or more components that have an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms (Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1). The component containing the impurity (calcium phenate) was tested in fish, invertebrates and algae and the results showed that it may cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life (Aquatic Chronic 4). Therefore the classification shown in Section 3 for the alkylphenol impurity should not be used to classify the product for aquatic toxicity.

The product is classified as harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Although it contains an alkylated phenol impurity that is highly toxic (Aquatic Acute 1/Chronic 1), the calcium phenate component itself is classified as Aquatic Chronic 4, which determines the product's overall classification.
