First Aid

Emergency First Aid Measures

Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies

Inhalation Exposure

Remove to fresh air and encourage deep breathing. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Symptoms:

May cause drowsiness, headache and nausea if sufficient amounts inhaled.

Skin Contact

Rinse thoroughly with water. If irritation occurs and persists, seek medical advice.

Symptoms:

May cause irritation of skin. May be absorbed through the skin. Repeated exposure may result in skin sensitization.

Eye Contact

Flush with water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists or occurs, seek medical advice.

Symptoms:

May cause irritation of eyes

Ingestion/Swallowing

Drink large quantities of water and seek medical advice.

Immediate Medical Attention Required

If irritation persists or occurs, seek medical advice. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment

Engineering Controls

Good general ventilation and/or local exhaust ventilation should be provided in areas where there is handling of perfumes in open systems (e.g., dispensing from drums). This applies to perfume compounding areas as well. with natural or forced air ventilation (at least 2 air changes per hour).

Hand Protection

Use gloves (eg nitrile disposable).

Eye Protection

Use safety glasses or chemical goggles.

Respiratory Protection

Prolonged exposures to high vapor concentrations may require respiratory protection approved for organic vapors. When handling bulk quantities contact H&SE for guidance. Individuals involved with odour evaluation tasks should breathe shallow/gently in accordance with good odour evaluation techniques. This will serve to minimize exposure.

Skin/Body Protection

Avoid unnecessary skin contact. Contaminated clothing and footwear should be removed and thoroughly cleaned before reuse. Other items will be dictated by circumstances.
