First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove the person away from the exposure source and into fresh air. If the person is coughing and sneezing, or has difficulty in breathing normally, treat accordingly. In case of massive accidental inhalation, call a doctor.

Symptoms: Irritation of the respiratory tract, coughing, sneezing, difficulty in breathing normally.

Skin contact

In case the subject complains of skin dryness, apply a standard moisturizer. A skin with scratches and exposed to calcium carbonate can be washed with water and a neutral soap. If irritation appears and persists, consult a doctor.

Symptoms: Skin dryness, irritation of the skin (unusual).

Eye contact

Wash the eye with plenty of water or with a normal saline solution. If an irritation or a redness appears, consult a doctor.

Symptoms: Mechanical irritation of the eye, irritation, redness.

Ingestion

Calcium carbonate is authorized as a food additive and is used in toothpastes and other pharmaceutical products such as acidity absorber and therefore it does not present any risk in case of ingestion.

Immediate Medical Attention

In case of massive accidental inhalation, call a doctor.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Environmental

Calcium carbonate is present in numerous ground at natural state, and it is used for agricultural amendment. It does not ask for particular precaution.

Cleanup methods

clean with a shovel and a broom and or with a vacuum cleaner; vacuum the residue with a vacuum cleaner. Cleaning with water is also possible, in this case the product quantity must be small and well diluted not to disturb the water treatment system.

Materials: shovel and a broom and or with a vacuum cleaner

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Care should be taken not to create dust over the recommended professional exposure limits. In case of dust dispersion in the air over the recommended limits, appropriate respiratory masks have to be worn or an air filtration system has to be installed.

Storage

Avoid creating dust, keep the product dry. Stock the product away from humidity so as not to degrade its mixing potential, and to prevent agglomerates from forming.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If necessary install other aspiratory system or ventilation system to obtain a dust level inferior to the professional exposure limit.

Hands

In general Protection gloves are not necessary, they can be wear for workers who may have a dry or irritated skin.

Eyes

If necessary security glass or protection glass can wear to avoid the eyes to be in contact with a great quantity of dust transported by air.

Respiratory

respiratory mask appropriate for dust must be wear every time that the recommended professional exposure limit are exceeded to avoid an over exposition.

Skin/Body

not necessary No special hygienic measure.

Environmental

The dust level must be controlled following the european, national and local regulations
