First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Skin contact

Wash off with plenty of water and soap. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Protect unharmed eye. Remove contact lenses if this can be easily done. Consult an ophthalmologist.

Ingestion

Aspiration hazard! Do not induce vomiting and seek medical advice immediately. Should vomiting occur, be sure to keep victim’s head below hips to avoid aspiration of vomitus into the lungs.

Immediate Medical Attention

Aspiration hazard! Symptomatic treatment. No specific antidote known.

Medical Treatment

Symptomatic treatment.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray, foam, CO2, dry powder.

Unsuitable media

high volume water jet

Specific hazards

Closed container may rupture if strongly heated.

Instructions

In case of fire cool endangered containers with water. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Firefighter Protection

In the case of respirable dust and/or fumes, use self-contained breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Wear personal protective equipment; see section 8. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Environmental

Do not allow entrance in sewage water, drainage systems, stretches of water, soil. Issue an immediate alarm report to the company environmental protection department if the product unintentionally leaves the production area.

Cleanup methods

Take up mechanically or with an absorbent material. Fill into marked, sealable containers.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Wear personal protective equipment; see section 8. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not inhale vapour, aerosols, mist. Ensure adequate ventilation.

Storage

Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Under inert gas.

Fire prevention

Take precautionary measures against static charges, keep away from sources of ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If possible, use material transfer/filling, metering and blending plants that are closed, or provide for local suction devices.

Hands

Chemical-resistant protective gloves (EN 374). Recommendation: Camatril 730, Nitrile. Glove material: nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) gloves. Selection of protective gloves to meet the requirements of specific workplaces. Suitability for specific workplaces should be clarified with protective glove manufacturers. The information is based on our own tests, references from the literature and information from glove manufacturers, or derived by analogy with similar materials. Remember that the useful time per day of a chemical protection glove may be much shorter than the permeation time determined according to EN 374 due to the many different influential factors involved (e.g. temperature).

Eyes

close-fitting protective goggles (e.g. closed goggles) recommended

Respiratory

In case of dusts/vapours/aerosols being formed or if the limit values like TLV are exceeded: use respiratory equipment with suitable filter (filter type AX) or wear a self contained respiratory apparatus

Skin/Body

Select materials and equipment for physical protection depending on the concentration and volume of hazardous substances and the workplace involved. Wear suitable protective clothing.

Environmental

see section 6.
