First Aid

Emergency First Aid Measures

Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies

Inhalation Exposure

Move to fresh air, consult a doctor if symptoms persist.

Symptoms:

Irritation, coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness.

Skin Contact

Do not pull bonded skin apart. You can carefully separate it with a blunt object such as a spoon, preferably after soaking in warm soapy water. Cyanoacrylates generate heat during curing. In rare cases, a large drop can generate enough heat to cause a burn. Burns should be treated normally after the glue has been removed from the skin. If lips are accidentally bonded together, moisten the lips with warm water and encourage maximum wetting and pressure from saliva in the mouth. Peel or roll lips apart. Do not try to separate the lips by pulling them in opposite directions.

Symptoms:

Redness, inflammation.

Eye Contact

If the eye is glued shut, you can loosen the eyelashes with warm water by dabbing them with a moist cotton pad. Cyanoacrylate binds to the protein of the eye and causes a tearing reaction that helps to release the bond. Keep the eye covered until the glue comes off, usually within 1 to 3 days. Do not force the eye open. Seek medical attention if solid particles of cyanoacrylate are behind the eyelid and scratching the eye.

Symptoms:

Irritation, conjunctivitis.

Ingestion/Swallowing

Ensure airways are clear. The product polymerizes immediately in the mouth, making swallowing almost impossible. Saliva loosens the hardened product from the mouth (after several hours).

Immediate Medical Attention Required

Seek medical attention if solid particles of cyanoacrylate are behind the eyelid and scratching the eye.

Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment

Engineering Controls

Zorg voor een voldoende ventilatie.

Hand Protection

Filter type: A

Skin/Body Protection

Draag geschikte beschermende kleding.
