Emergency First Aid Measures
Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies
๐ซ Inhalation Exposure
Remove victim to uncontaminated area wearing self contained breathing apparatus. Keep victim warm and rested. Maintain an open airway. Call a doctor. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation if breathing stopped.
Symptoms:
In high concentrations may cause asphyxiation. Symptoms may include loss of mobility/consciousness. Victim may not be aware of asphyxiation.
๐๏ธ Skin Contact
In case of frostbite spray with water for at least 15 minutes. Apply a sterile dressing.
Symptoms:
If irritation occurs
๐๏ธ Eye Contact
Immediately flush eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses. If irritation occurs: Flush eyes with plenty of water. Get medical advice / attention.
๐จ Immediate Medical Attention Required
Call a doctor. Get medical advice / attention. Seek medical attention.
Medical Treatment
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation if breathing stopped. Apply a sterile dressing. Loosen tight clothing, such as a collar, tie or belt. Place the unconscious person in a lateral position.

Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment
๐ญ Engineering Controls
Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation. Systems under pressure should be regularily checked for leakages. Ensure exposure is below occupational exposure limits (where available). Oxygen detectors should be used when asphyxiating gases may be released. Consider the use of a work permit system e.g. for maintenance activities.
๐งค Hand Protection
Wear working gloves when handling gas containers. Standard EN 388 - Protective gloves against mechanical risks, performance level 1 or higher. Recommended types include wrist gloves from leather or synthetic material with equivalent performance, fabric gloves, fabric gloves with leather palms. Wear cold insulating gloves when transfilling or breaking transfer connections. Standard EN 511 - Cold insulating gloves, performance level 1 or higher. Recommended types include insulated gauntlets or gloves specifically selected to prevent liquid penetration and ingress of cryogenic liquids and to provide mechanical resistance.
๐๏ธ Eye Protection
Wear goggles when transfilling or breaking transfer connections. Standard EN 166 - Personal eye-protection - specifications.
๐ท Respiratory Protection
Self contained breathing apparatus is recommended, where unknown exposure may be expected, e.g. during maintenance activities on installation systems. Standard EN 137 - Self-contained open-circuit compressed air breathing apparatus with full face mask. When indicated by a risk assessment, Respiratory Protective Equipment must be used. The selection of the Respiratory Protective Device (RPD) must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the selected RPD.
๐ฆบ Skin/Body Protection
Wear safety shoes while handling containers. Standard EN ISO 20345 - Personal protective equipment - Safety footwear.
๐ Environmental Exposure Controls
None necessary.
