04

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Supply fresh air. If required, provide artificial respiration. Keep patient warm. Consult doctor if symptoms persist. In case of unconsciousness bring patient into stable side position for transport.

Skin contact

Wash skin with water using soap if available. If persistent irritation occurs, obtain medical attention.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately opened eye for several minutes under running water. Then consult doctor.

Ingestion

Rinse out mouth and then drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting; instantly call for medical help.

Immediate Medical Attention

Consult doctor if symptoms persist. Instantly call for medical help (for swallowing).

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

CO2, extinguishing powder or water jet. Fight larger fires with water jet or alcohol-resistant foam.

Unsuitable media

Water with a full water jet.

Specific hazards

Can form explosive gas-air mixtures. In case of incomplete combustion carbon monoxide can arise. Fumes are heavier than air and distributed over ground. Inflammation is possible from a far distance.

Instructions

Endangered containers in the surrounding area should be cooled with a water-hose.

Firefighter Protection

See section 8.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Wear protective equipment. Keep off unprotected persons. Extinguish naked flames. Remove flammable sources. No smoking. Avoid sparks. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid inhalation of fumes. Air contaminated rooms thoroughly. Protect against electrostatic sparks.

Large spill

If large amounts are released, the authorities must be informed.

Environmental

Dilute with much water.

Cleanup methods

Absorb with liquid-binding material

Materials: sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders, sawdust

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace. Prevent formation of aerosols.

Storage

Protect against direct sunlight, other sources of heat and ignition. Keep containers tightly closed. Store in cool, dry conditions.

Fire prevention

Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke. Protect against electrostatic charges.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Hands

Protective gloves. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation. Material of gloves: Nitrile rubber, NBR, recommended thickness of the material: ≥ 0.4 mm, penetration time: ≥ 480 min. Butylrubber, BR, recommended thickness of the material: ≥ 0.5 mm, penetration time: ≥ 480 min. The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As the product is a preparation of several substances, the resistance of the glove material can not be calculated in advance and has therefore to be checked prior to the application. The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.

Eyes

Tightly sealed safety glasses.

Respiratory

Not necessary if room is well-ventilated.

Skin/Body

Standard protective clothing. Chemical resistant safety-shoes or boots. If skin contact is possible, wear impenetrable protective clothing against this solvent.
