First Aid

Emergency First Aid Measures

Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies

Inhalation Exposure

Upon breathing difficulties or irritation of the respiratory tract: Bring the injured person into fresh air. Make sure the injured person is continuously monitored. Prevent shock by keeping the injured person warm and calm. If breathing ceases, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If unconscious, roll the injured person into recovery position. Call an ambulance.

Symptoms:

Breathing difficulties or irritation of the respiratory tract.

Skin Contact

Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Ensure to wash exposed skin thoroughly with water and soap. Skin cleanser can be used. DO NOT use solvents or thinners. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

Symptoms:

Skin irritation.

Eye Contact

If in eyes: Flush eyes with water or saline water (20-30 C) for at least 5 minutes. Remove contact lenses. Seek medical assistance and continue flushing during transport.

Ingestion/Swallowing

In the case of ingestion, contact a doctor immediately. If the person is conscious, give them water. DO NOT try to induce vomiting unless this is recommended by a doctor. Hold head facing down to prevent vomit from returning to the mouth and throat. Prevent shock by keeping the injured person warm and calm. Initiate immediate resuscitation if breathing stops. If unconscious, roll the injured person into recovery position. Call an ambulance.

Immediate Medical Attention Required

IF exposed or concerned: Get immediate medical advice/attention.

Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment

Engineering Controls

The formation of vapours must be kept at a minimum and below current limit values. Installation of a local exhaust system if normal air flow in the work room is not sufficient is recommended. Ensure eyewash and emergency showers are clearly marked. Apply standard precautions during use of the product. Avoid inhalation of vapours.

Hand Protection

In the event of short termed exposure or low concentrations: Nitrile gloves, 0.38 mm thickness, 30 min breakthrough time, Standards: EN374-2, EN374-3, EN388. In the event of prolonged exposure or high concentrations: Butyl gloves, 0.7 mm thickness, 480 min breakthrough time, Standards: EN374-2, EN374-3, EN388, EN421. When there is risk of splash- / intermittent exposure: Fluoropolymer elastomer (e.g. Viton) gloves, 0.7 mm thickness, 120 min breakthrough time, Standards: EN374-2, EN374-3, EN388. General gloves: EN374.

Eye Protection

Face shield alternatively safety glasses with side shields. Standard: EN166.

Respiratory Protection

In case of inadequate ventilation: AX filter type, Brown colour, Standard: EN14387.

Skin/Body Protection

Dedicated work clothing should be worn.

Environmental Exposure Controls

Keep damming materials near the workplace. If possible, collect spillage during work.
