First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove person to fresh air. If signs/symptoms continue, get medical attention. Keep patient warm and at rest. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. Keep respiratory tract clear. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration.

Skin contact

Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Get medical attention immediately if irritation develops and persists. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or use recognized skin cleanser.

Symptoms: Erythema

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical advice.

Ingestion

Move the victim to fresh air. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. Keep respiratory tract clear. Do NOT induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention. Rinse mouth with water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention immediately if irritation develops and persists (skin). Seek medical advice (inhalation, eye contact, ingestion).

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Unsuitable media

High volume water jet

Instructions

Standard procedure for chemical fires. Cool containers/tanks with water spray.

Firefighter Protection

In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Use personal protective equipment. Exposure to decomposition products may be a hazard to health.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

Environmental

Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

collect with non-combustible absorbent material

Materials: non-combustible absorbent material (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite)

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not use in areas without adequate ventilation. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Wash hands and face before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations. Do not get in eyes or mouth or on skin. Do not get on skin or clothing. Do not ingest. Do not enter areas where used or stored until adequately ventilated. Do not repack. Do not re-use empty containers. These safety instructions also apply to empty packaging which may still contain product residues. Keep container closed when not in use.

Storage

Store in original container. Keep container closed when not in use. Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Do not store together with oxidizing and self-igniting products. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Store in accordance with the particular national regulations. Keep in properly labelled containers.

Hygiene

Wash hands and face before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Wash face, hands and any exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.

Fire prevention

Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Effective exhaust ventilation system

Hands

Material: Nitrile rubber, Break through time: > 10 min, Protective index: Class 1. Remarks: Wear protective gloves. The break through time depends amongst other things on the material, the thickness and the type of glove and therefore has to be measured for each case. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Eyes

Safety glasses with side-shields

Respiratory

Use respiratory protection unless adequate local exhaust ventilation is provided or exposure assessment demonstrates that exposures are within recommended exposure guidelines. Filter type: Type A (A)

Skin/Body

Choose body protection in relation to its type, to the concentration and amount of dangerous substances, and to the specific work-place.
