04

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist.

Skin contact

Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash skin with soap and water. In case of eczema or other skin disorders: Seek medical attention and take along these instructions.

Symptoms: May cause an allergic skin reaction. Dermatitis. Rash.

Eye contact

Rinse with water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Immediate Medical Attention

Keep victim under observation.

Medical Treatment

Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water fog. Foam. Dry chemical powder. Carbon dioxide (CO2).

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

During fire, gases hazardous to health may be formed.

Instructions

Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials.

Firefighter Protection

Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Keep unnecessary personnel away. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.

Small spill

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Large spill

Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Dike the spilled material, where this is possible. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Following product recovery, flush area with water.

Environmental

Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Avoid release to the environment.

Cleanup methods

Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Materials: vermiculite, dry sand, earth, absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece)

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid breathing mist/vapors. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Avoid prolonged exposure. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

Storage

Store in tightly closed container. Store away from incompatible materials (see Section 10 of the SDS).

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation should be used. Ventilation rates should be matched to conditions. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If exposure limits have not been established, maintain airborne levels to an acceptable level.

Hands

Wear appropriate chemical resistant gloves.

Eyes

Wear safety glasses with side shields (or goggles).

Respiratory

If airborne concentrations are above the applicable exposure limits, use NIOSH approved respiratory protection. Use a positive-pressure air-supplied respirator if there is any potential for an uncontrolled release, exposure levels are not known, or any other circumstances where air-purifying respirators may not provide adequate protection.

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate chemical resistant clothing. Use of an impervious apron is recommended.
