First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Get medical attention. Provide rest, warmth and fresh air. When breathing is difficult, properly trained personnel may assist affected person by administering oxygen.

Skin contact

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash the skin immediately with soap and water. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after washing. Launder clothing before reuse.

Eye contact

Promptly rinse eyes with plenty of clean water while lifting the eyelids. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes. Continue until the eyes are free of all traces of contamination. Get immediate medical attention.

Ingestion

DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING! NEVER MAKE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON VOMIT OR DRINK FLUIDS! If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Drink plenty of water. Get medical attention immediately! Provide rest, warmth and fresh air.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention immediately (ingestion); Get immediate medical attention (eye contact).

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand, dolomite or other inert material.

Specific hazards

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air at room temperature. Vapours are heavier than air and may spread near ground to sources of ignition.

Instructions

Avoid breathing fire vapours. Cool containers exposed to flames with water until well after the fire is out.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Keep all unnecessary people away.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Environmental

Do not allow spill material to enter drains or water courses. Cover all drains and sewers. Avoid spreading spilled material. Contain spillages with sand, earth or suitable inert absorbent material. Prevent further spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

Absorb in vermiculite, sand, diatomaceous earth or other inert absorbent material. Place into clearly labelled container for recovery or disposal (see section 13). Rinse site with copious amounts of water, which should not be allowed into drains, sewers or water courses.

Materials: vermiculite, sand, diatomaceous earth or other inert absorbent material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid spilling, skin and eye contact. Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not breathe vapour or mist.

Storage

Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Store away from oxidising materials, acids and bases or damp conditions.

Fire prevention

Keep away from heat, sparks or flame.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.

Hands

Wear suitable protective gloves conforming to EN 374. Seek recommendations from manufacturer or supplier. After using gloves the hands should be washed and thoroughly dried and a suitable moisturiser applied.

Eyes

Wear approved safety goggles.

Respiratory

If ventilation is insufficient suitable respiratory protection must be provided. Seek advice and recommendations of the manufacturer or supplier of equipment

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of liquid contact and repeated or prolonged vapour contact.
