First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Symptoms: Difficulty in breathing. Inhalation of high vapor concentrations may cause symptoms like headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention if symptoms occur or persist. Call a physician if symptoms persist or skin irritation persists.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting/equipment. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Wherever possible, engineering control measures such as the isolation or enclosure of the process, the introduction of process or equipment changes to minimise release or contact, and the use of properly designed ventilation systems, should be adopted to control hazardous materials at source

Hands

Protective gloves. Butyl rubber (480 minutes, 0.35 mm, EN 374, Level 6), Neoprene gloves (480 minutes, 0.45 mm, EN 374), Viton (R) (480 minutes, 0.3 mm). Inspect gloves before use. Observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Gloves are suitable for the task considering chemical compatibility, dexterity, operational conditions, user susceptibility, and specific local conditions such as danger of cuts, abrasion. Handle gloves with care avoiding skin contamination.

Eyes

Goggles (European standard - EN 166)

Respiratory

No protective equipment is needed under normal use conditions. For large scale/emergency use, use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 136 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. For small scale/Laboratory use, maintain adequate ventilation.

Skin/Body

Long sleeved clothing.
