First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Keep at rest. Keep warm and in a quiet place. Move to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Inhalation may provoke the following symptoms: Mental confusion, Coughing, Headache, CNS stimulation, sore throat, nausea, Breathing difficulties, discomfort in the chest, Shortness of breath Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Skin contact

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Irritating to skin. Skin contact may provoke the following symptoms: Redness Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Eye contact

Remove contact lenses. Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Contact with eyes may cause irritation. Eye contact may provoke the following symptoms: Swelling of tissue, Redness.

Ingestion

Do NOT induce vomiting. Observe risk of aspiration if vomiting occurs. Rinse mouth with water. Drink plenty of water. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Harmful: may cause lung damage if swallowed. Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Closed system. Ensure adequate ventilation. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Take necessary action to avoid static electricity discharge (which might cause ignition of organic vapours). Provide adequate precautions, such as electrical grounding and bonding, or inert atmospheres. Organisational measures to prevent /limit releases, dispersion and exposure. See also section 7

Hands

Viton (R), Butyl rubber. (EN 374) The selection of specific gloves for a specific application and time of use in a working area, should also take into account other factors on the working space, such as (but not limited to): other chemicals that are possibly used, physical requirements (protection against cutting/drilling, skill, thermal protection), and the instructions/specification of the supplier of gloves.

Eyes

Safety glasses (EN166)

Respiratory

In case of insufficient ventilation wear suitable respiratory equipment. Recommended Filter type: A (EN 141). Respirator with a half face mask (EN 140). Respirator with a full face mask (EN 136). Self-contained open-circuit compressed air breathing apparatus (EN 137)

Skin/Body

chemical-resistant overalls

Environmental

Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Comply with applicable Community environmental protection legislation.
