First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
Remove immediately to fresh air. Keep patient warm and at rest. If any symptoms persist obtain medical advice. Unconscious casualties must be placed in the recovery position. Monitor breathing and pulse rate and if breathing has failed, or is deemed inadequate, respiration must be assisted, preferably by the mouth to mouth method. Administer external cardiac massage if necessary. Seek medical attention immediately.
Symptoms: Cough, nausea, headache, dizziness, weakness, drowsiness, blurred vision or irritation of the eyes, nose or throat.
Immediately wash exposed skin with soap and water. Drench contaminated clothing with water before removing. Contaminated leather, particularly footwear, must be discarded. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash contaminated skin with soap and water. Wash clothing before reuse. Get medical attention if irritation occurs.
Symptoms: Skin irritation (redness, dry skin).
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Get medical attention if irritation occurs.
Symptoms: Irritation of the eyes.
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Aspiration hazard if swallowed. Can enter lungs and cause damage. Get medical attention.
Symptoms: Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, risk of serious damage to the lungs if swallowed (by subsequent aspiration).
Immediate Medical Attention
Seek medical attention immediately (inhalation). Get medical attention if irritation occurs (skin/eye). Get medical attention (ingestion).
Firefighting Measures
Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection
Water fog, foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide extinguisher or spray.
Do not use water jet.
The substance is a highly flammable liquid and vapour. Decomposition products may include the following materials: carbon monoxide (CO) carbon dioxide (CO2) other hazardous substances. Vapours can form explosive mixtures with air. Vapours are heavier than air and can spread along the ground or float on water surfaces to remote ignition sources. Runoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard. The substance is fatal if swallowed and enters airways damaging respiratory tract. It causes also skin irritation and is also very toxic to aquatic life.
Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in immediate area). Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. First move people out of line-of-sight of the scene and away from windows. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool.
Firefighter Protection
Fire-fighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full chemical protective clothing.
Accidental Release Measures
Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection
Stop leak if without risk. If emergency personnel are unavailable, contain spilt material. Approach the release from upwind.
Stop leak if without risk. If emergency personnel are unavailable, contain spilt material. For small spills, add absorbent (soil may be used in the absence of other suitable materials) and use a non-sparking or explosion-proof means to transfer material to a sealable, appropriate container for disposal.
Stop leak if without risk. If emergency personnel are unavailable, contain spilt material. Approach the release from upwind. Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas. Dike spill area and do not allow product to reach sewage system and surface or ground water. Avoid contact of spilt material with soil and prevent runoff entering surface waterways. Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material e.g. sand, earth, vermiculite or diatomaceous earth and place in container for disposal according to local regulations. Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. Use a method that can be used safely in an explosive atmosphere to transfer material to a sealed, appropriate container for disposal.
Avoid contact of spilt material with soil and prevent runoff entering surface waterways. Inform the relevant authorities if the product has caused environmental pollution (sewers, waterways, soil or air).

Handling and Storage
Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements
Do not ingest. Never siphon by mouth. If ingested, do not induce vomiting. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing vapours, spray or mists. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. To avoid fire or explosion, dissipate static electricity during transfer by earthing and bonding containers and equipment before transferring material. Use explosion-proof electrical (ventilating, lighting and material handling) equipment. Avoid contact of spilt material and runoff with soil and surface waterways.
Avoid all possible sources of ignition (spark or flame). No smoking! Store in either mild steel or stainless steel containers or vessels. Store in a designated cool and well-ventilated place. Store in the original, tightly closed, container. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Keep container tightly closed and properly labelled. Storage installations should be designed with adequate bunds so as to prevent ground and water pollution in case of leaks or spills. Fixed storage containers, transfer containers and associated equipment should be earthed and bonded to prevent accumulation of static charge.
When using do not eat, drink or smoke.
Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Dissipate static electricity during transfer by earthing and bonding containers and equipment. Use explosion-proof electrical equipment.
Exposure Controls / PPE
Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment
Exposure should be limited using appropriate engineering controls (containment, LEV)
Wear appropriate gloves.
Wear safety glasses or chemical safety goggles as necessary to prevent eye contact.
In the case of hazardous fumes, wear self contained breathing apparatus. See respiratory protection standard EN 137 for further information.
Wear appropriate protective helmet, footwear and clothing as required, taking into account also other factors in the work area.
Do not release into sewers or waterways. Do not incinerate or dispose of to landfill. The substance should be reclaimed or recycled where possible.
Physical and Chemical Properties

Stability and Reactivity
Chemical stability, hazardous reactions, and incompatible materials
Cyclohexane is not expected to persist in the environment because it is readily biodegradable. It has a low potential for adsorption to organic matter and has a low potential for bioaccumulation.
Cyclohexane is a highly flammable liquid (flash point: -20°C) with a self-ignition temperature of 260°C. It is a volatile liquid (vapour pressure = 124hPa at 24°C). The vapours can form flammable and explosive mixtures with air within the range of 1.3% to 8.4 % v/v. Heating may cause violent combustion or explosion.
Cyclohexane vapour/air mixtures are explosive within the range of 1.3 % to 8.4 % v/v. Heating may cause violent combustion or explosion.
