Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment
Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment
Engineering Controls
Good ventilation at the workplace must be ensured, with the help of effective local exhaust ventilation. Appropriate technical measures should always take priority over personal protective equipment.
Hand Protection
Protect hands with work gloves category III (ref. standard EN 374). For the final choice of work gloves, compatibility, degradation, breakthrough time, and permeation must be taken into account. In the case of preparations, the resistance of the work gloves must first be checked before use, as this is not predictable. The wear life of the gloves depends on the duration and manner of use.
Eye Protection
It is recommended to wear hermetically sealed safety goggles (ref. standard EN 166).
Respiratory Protection
If the threshold limit value (e.g., TLV-TWA) of the substance or of one or more substances present in the product is exceeded, it is advisable to use a type B filter mask, choosing the class (1, 2 or 3) based on the concentration limit value (ref. standard EN 14387). In the presence of gases or vapours of different kinds and/or gases or vapours with particles (aerosols, smoke, mist, etc.), combination filters should be used. The use of respiratory protective equipment is necessary when the technical measures applied are not sufficient to limit worker exposure to the relevant threshold values. The protection offered by the masks is limited in any case. If the substance concerned is odourless or its odour threshold is above the corresponding TLV-TWA, and in any case in emergencies, use an independent compressed air breathing apparatus with open circuit (ref. standard EN 137) or a self-priming hose mask (ref. standard EN 138). For the correct choice of respiratory protective equipment, consult standard EN 529.
Skin/Body Protection
Wear long-sleeved work clothing and safety footwear for professional use category I (ref. EEC Directive 89/686 and standard EN ISO 20344).
Environmental Exposure Controls
Emissions from production processes, including emissions from ventilation equipment, must be controlled in the context of compliance with environmental protection legislation.
