First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do not use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; induce artificial respiration with a respiratory medical device.

Symptoms: Breathing difficulties. Inhalation of high vapor concentrations may cause symptoms like headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting. Symptoms of allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, trouble breathing, tingling of the hands and feet, dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain, muscle pain or flushing.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Symptoms: May cause allergic skin reaction. Symptoms of allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, trouble breathing, tingling of the hands and feet, dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain, muscle pain or flushing.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Symptoms: Causes eye burns.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician or Poison Control Center immediately.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical attention is required (for eye contact and inhalation). Obtain medical attention (for skin contact). Call a physician or Poison Control Center immediately (for ingestion).

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use only under a chemical fume hood. Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting/equipment. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Hands

Wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing to prevent skin exposure.

Eyes

Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166.

Respiratory

Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing to prevent skin exposure.
