First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. Keep patient warm and at rest. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Symptoms: Difficulty in breathing. Symptoms of overexposure may be headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Immediate Medical Attention

Obtain medical attention if irritation persists (eye contact). Get medical attention if symptoms occur (skin contact, ingestion). If symptoms persist, call a physician (inhalation).

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting equipment. Wherever possible, engineering control measures such as the isolation or enclosure of the process, the introduction of process or equipment changes to minimise release or contact, and the use of properly designed ventilation systems, should be adopted to control hazardous materials at source

Hands

Protective gloves. Glove material: Butyl rubber - 480 minutes, 0.38 mm - 0.56 mm, Level 6, As tested under EN374-3 Determination of Resistance to Permeation by Chemicals. Neoprene - 480 minutes, 0.45 mm, EN 374. Viton (R) - 480 minutes, 0.7 mm. Inspect gloves before use. Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. (Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information) Ensure gloves are suitable for the task: Chemical compatability, Dexterity, Operational conditions, User susceptibility, e.g. sensitisation effects, also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion. Remove gloves with care avoiding skin contamination.

Eyes

Goggles (European standard - EN 166)

Respiratory

No protective equipment is needed under normal use conditions. Large scale/emergency use: Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 136 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. Recommended Filter type: Organic gases and vapours filter Type A Brown conforming to EN14387. Small scale/Laboratory use: Maintain adequate ventilation

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing to prevent skin exposure.
