First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Provide fresh air. If breathing is irregular or stopped, immediately seek medical assistance and start first aid actions. In case of respiratory tract irritation, consult a physician. In case of unconsciousness place person in the recovery position. Never give anything by mouth. Keep affected person warm, still and covered.

Symptoms: Cough, pain, choking, and breathing difficulties. Respiratory tract irritation.

Skin contact

Wash with plenty of soap and water. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Causes poorly healing wounds.

Eye contact

Irrigate copiously with clean, fresh water, holding the eyelids apart. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Immediately call a doctor.

Symptoms: Corrosive effects.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell.

Symptoms: Corrosive effects.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call a physician immediately for skin contact. Immediately call a doctor for eye contact. Immediately seek medical assistance for inhalation if breathing is irregular or stopped.

Medical Treatment

None.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

water spray, alcohol resistant foam, fire extinguishing powder, carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable media

water jet

Specific hazards

Substance or mixture corrosive to metals.

Instructions

Non-combustible. Keep containers cool with water spray. In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Co-ordinate firefighting measures to the fire surroundings. Fight fire with normal precautions from a reasonable distance.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protection suit.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Remove persons to safety. Ventilate affected area. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray. Stop leak if safe to do so.

Environmental

Keep away from drains, surface and ground water. Retain contaminated washing water and dispose of it.

Cleanup methods

Collect spillage. Place in appropriate containers for disposal.

Materials: Absorbent material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust, etc.)

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool. Store in a dry place. Keep locked up. Store in corrosive resistant container with a resistant inner liner.

Hygiene

Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas. Wash hands after use. Preventive skin protection (barrier creams/ointments) is recommended. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

General ventilation.

Hands

Material: CR: chloroprene (chlorobutadiene) rubber (≥ 0,7 mm), NBR: acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (≥ 0,4 mm), IIR: isobutene-isoprene (butyl) rubber (≥ 0,7 mm), FKM: fluoro-elastomer (≥ 0,4 mm), PVC: polyvinyl chloride (≥ 0,5 mm). Breakthrough times: >480 minutes (permeation: level 6). Standards: EN 374. Check leak-tightness/impermeability prior to use. Clean before taking off and air well.

Eyes

Wear eye/face protection. (EN 166).

Respiratory

In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. Type: E (against acidic gases like sulphur dioxide or hydrogen chloride, colour code: Yellow). P2.

Skin/Body

Protective clothing against liquid chemicals.

Environmental

Use appropriate container to avoid environmental contamination. Keep away from drains, surface and ground water.
