First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen and get medical help immediately.

Skin contact

Flush skin with plenty of water

Eye contact

Remove contact lenses at once. Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical help if needed.

Ingestion

If victim is conscious and alert, rinse mouth with water as a precaution. Never give anything to an unconscious person

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical help if needed (eye contact). Get medical help immediately (inhalation).

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

If material is involved in a fire use water fog (or if unavailable fine water spray), alcohol resistant foam, standard foam, dry agent (carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder).

Specific hazards

Non-combustible material.

Instructions

Not combustible, however following evaporation of aqueous component residual material can burn if ignited.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Clear area of all unprotected personnel. Slippery when spilt. Avoid accidents, clean up immediately. Work up wind or increase ventilation. Contain - prevent run off into drains and waterways.

Small spill

Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contamination. Avoid inhalation of vapors or dust. Wipe up with absorbent (clean rag or paper towels). Collect and seal in properly labelled containers or drums for disposal.

Large spill

Clear area of all unprotected personnel. Slippery when spilt. Avoid accidents, clean up immediately. Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contamination and the inhalation of vapors. Work up wind or increase ventilation. Contain - prevent run off into drains and waterways. Use absorbent (soil, sand or other inert material). Collect and seal in properly labelled containers or drums for disposal. If contamination of crops, sewers or waterways has occurred advise local emergency services.

Environmental

prevent run off into drains and waterways

Cleanup methods

Wipe up with absorbent (clean rag or paper towels). Collect and seal in properly labelled containers or drums for disposal.

Materials: absorbent (clean rag or paper towels), soil, sand or other inert material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid eye contact and repeated or prolonged skin contact. Avoid inhalation of vapor, mist or aerosols. Fermentation activity may occur which can yield carbon dioxide with possible traces of ethanol or volatile fatty acids. Fermentation may also occur on dilute surface layers formed by condensation from the headspace above the liquid. The addition of water may initiate bacterial growth which can produce methane and further carbon dioxide. This may create an explosive atmosphere in the presence of a spark or flame. Insufficient oxygen may also be present. If entry into vessels or storage tanks is required then confined space entry requirements should be implemented.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and out of direct sunlight.

Hygiene

Maintain high standards of personal hygiene.

Fire prevention

Not combustible, however following evaporation of aqueous component residual material can burn if ignited. Store away from sources of heat and/or ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure ventilation is adequate to maintain air concentrations below Exposure Standards. Use only in well ventilated areas. Use with local exhaust ventilation or while wearing appropriate respirator. Vapor heavier than air - prevent concentration in hollows or sumps. Do NOT enter confined spaces where vapor may have collected.

Hands

GLOVES. Available information suggests that gloves made from nitrile rubber should be suitable for intermittent contact. However, due to variations in glove construction and local conditions, the user should make a final assessment.

Eyes

SAFETY GLASSES.

Respiratory

Use with local exhaust ventilation or while wearing appropriate respirator.

Skin/Body

OVERALLS, SAFETY SHOES.
