First Aid

Emergency First Aid Measures

Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies

Inhalation Exposure

Immediately take the victim into fresh air. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Get medical attention if the victim is unwell.

Symptoms:

Irritation may lead to chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary oedema. Causes severe irritation of upper respiratory tract with coughing, burns, breathing difficulty and possible coma. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract.

Skin Contact

Remove contaminated clothing, jewellery and shoes immediately wash the affected area with plenty water. Get medical attention, if needed.

Symptoms:

May cause irritation.

Eye Contact

In case of contact with eyes immediately flush with large amount of water holding eyelids apart until chemical remains are gone (for at least 15 minutes). Get medical attention immediately, preferably ophthalmologist.

Symptoms:

May cause irritation, burns and conjunctivitis.

Ingestion/Swallowing

If the victim is conscious, give 2-3 glass full of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention if needed.

Symptoms:

May cause severe and permanent damage to the digestive tract. Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. May cause perforation of the digestive tract. Causes severe pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and shock. May cause corrosion and permanent tissue destruction of the oesophagus and digestive tract. May cause systemic effects.

Immediate Medical Attention Required

Immediate medical attention required for eye contact, preferably ophthalmologist.

Medical Treatment

No special treatment needed; treat symptomatically.

Exposure Controls & Personal Protective Equipment

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and required safety equipment

Engineering Controls

In pursuance of work is proper foresight needed to avoid leaking onto clothes and floors and to avoid contact with eyes and skin. Provide local exhaust ventilation system. Provide an emergency eye wash fountain and quick drench shower in the immediate work area.

Hand Protection

Use appropriate chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374). Impervious gloves - Suitable material: PVC, Neoprene, Natural Rubber, butyl-rubber - Unsuitable material: Leather

Eye Protection

Use appropriate splash resistant protective glasses (EN 166).

Respiratory Protection

Under conditions of frequent use or heavy exposure, respiratory protection may be needed. Respiratory protection is ranked in order from minimum to maximum. Consider warning properties before use. A facemask with suitable filter or powdered respirator is advised.

Skin/Body Protection

Use appropriate chemical resistant protective clothing. Wear safety footwear and industrial safety helmet.

Environmental Exposure Controls

No specific prescription.
