Emergency First Aid Measures
Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies
๐ซ Inhalation Exposure
Remove person to fresh air. If person is not breathing, provide artificial respiration. If necessary, provide additional oxygen once breathing is restored if trained to do so.
๐๏ธ Skin Contact
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.
Symptoms:
irritation or redness develops
๐๏ธ Eye Contact
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of clean water for an extended time, not less than fifteen (15) minutes. Flush longer if there is any indication of residual chemical in the eye. Ensure adequate flushing of the eyes by separating the eyelids with fingers and roll eyes in a circular motion.
Symptoms:
irritation persists
๐ฝ๏ธ Ingestion/Swallowing
Rinse mouth with water (for small amounts). Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give liquids. If spontaneous vomiting occurs, lean victim forward to reduce the risk of aspiration. Monitor for breathing difficulties.
Symptoms:
breathing difficulties (if aspiration occurs)
๐จ Immediate Medical Attention Required
Seek medical attention immediately for inhalation exposure. Obtain medical attention if skin irritation or redness develops. Thermal burns require immediate medical attention depending on the severity and the area of the body burned. If eye irritation persists, call a physician. Obtain immediate medical attention for ingestion.

๐ญ Engineering Controls
Use with ventilation adequate to reduce levels of air contaminants below that which may cause personal injury or illness. Local exhaust is preferred. Explosion proof equipment is recommended. No smoking or open lights. General, mechanical or dilution ventilation may be suitable.
๐งค Hand Protection
Wear protective gloves either rubber or neoprene.
๐๏ธ Eye Protection
Wear splash-proof safety googles if material could be misted or splashed into eyes.
๐ท Respiratory Protection
If exposure exceeds TLV, wear NIOSH approved respirators
๐ฆบ Skin/Body Protection
Wear protective clothing.
